The New York Accent: What Borough Are You From?

Not being from New York originally, I’ve never been able to determine the difference between each borough’s accent.
Given that most of my students are true New Yorkers, I pose the question “What Borough Are You From?”, after watching the hilarious video below:

  1. That video was really funny.

I’m from Brooklyn, and people always comment on my accent whenever i leave the state.
However, i don’t think that i talk in all of those different tones and pitches! LOL

  2. At first I did not realize that there is a difference between each borough’s accent. This video is kind of true. Especially for the Manhattan accent, people from Manhattan really talk fast. But I never know that Queens is boring and it is not fun. haha

  3. Very Funny!! We could go so far as to include the Upper Eastside, “clenched teeth speak”!! I’ll did up some of that Kanss drall for y’all too!!!

  4. Lmao. You gotta love NY!!

..-And yeah I have to agree with Ting T Xia, queens is not boring at all!! We just live like regular people, we don’t go to the extremes!!! lol =)

  5. Is Jay Leno from Brooklyn because that’s what the voice sounded like and as for Queens it sounds like Lois Griffin from Family Guy, is Quahog actually in Queens and not Rhode Island?…hmmm we must find the truth…hahaha Queens was my favorite!!!

  6. I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised until I was 4. I don’t remember anything from DR. Since my memories are more from Brooklyn, I always say that’s where I’m from. Though I will never ever forget my roots, Brooklyn will always be THE BEST!

  7. SMH i totally didnt even answer the question.. HAHA

but I’d say Brooklyn has the “real” NY accent. Like the Italians they make fun of in movies lol

  8. I moved to the US 10 years ago, but still I can’t tell when someone has a native English accent. This video is funny because the accent used is very obvious. I live in Brooklyn, so I have to learn a little more to chew my vowels 🙂

  9. I didn’t think video was funny at all, the only people with noticeable accents would be people from S.I at least for me . brooklyn, bronx and manhattan all sound the same to me.
